After one text message yesterday, I watched a half a dozen people pull together our resources, our talents, and our hearts to serve a student who has had to face a grown-up challenge. The student is hurting; the student's parent is hurting and while we can do little to fix it or to ease the hurt - we can rally the community that is Union High School and create a web of support that ensures the student will not slip away from us.
That's remarkable in and of itself in a school of almost 3500 kids. What touched me the most was the eagerness in which these professionals responded. Their work loads are huge, and my request added more work; yet, they each rallied, smiled, and offered more.
I work with amazing men and women and they light my world - but more importantly, they manifest this quote Duchess sent to me tonight -
"This is the best of all things we can do for one another; Make the dark small."
