Every detail of our resort seems to have been purposefully and methodically chosen. The creamy white of each umbrella compliments either the pristine blue of the sky or the meandering green and turquoise of the ocean's bay. With brilliant contrast, the orange of towels bounce off the white sand and cling to the ultramarine backdrop of the sea. Likewise the creamy cement surrounding the pool and the browns of the lounge furniture discreetly seconded the beach and the trunks of palm trees too numerous to count. Every space available held bountifully rich green tropical plants many with brash, bold colors, others with soft sandy pastels- no detail forgotten.
Each time of day brought a different kind of beauty to marvel and appreciate - kind of like the years in our marriage. We remember well the early bloom of love and the independent secret days of being strangers who belonged to each other; we traverse the mysterious winding pathways of becoming one as we each build and protect the two individuals; we cheer and support through success and failure and push the other to become all that we promised; we have loved in private and fought in public; we have prayed in unison and singularly; we have laughed, and danced, and kissed - each with a passion meant only for the other; we have nurtured and raised children who are not ours; we have seen the bright morning of our children's births and the under side of death. And we have chosen not just to weather any and all, but to triumph in our union even when the best we have to give is the strength to simply take another breathe.
A mere man or a group of humans created the resort that perches on the beach on the Gulf of Mexico, but God Almighty formed the azure tapestry and his hands stroke the skies each morning and paint dusk each night as gentle or unbridled. I need to remember the power in his hands.
The coming days will hold dark moments as Wednesday will also mark the second year without the first best thing we were ever blessed to hold. Even so, I am thankful that the God that created a beach whose beauty is only amplified by the harshness of wind, and rain, and intense sunshine also created a sweet, strong man who would love me, fiercely.
We should all love so fiercely.
