The bus driver with whom I rode wished each child a "happy summer" as he/she left the bus. Some said "thank you". Some said "you too". Some shook his hand; a few hugged his neck.
The bus driver taught school for forty years in another Oklahoma town. As he said goodbye to each child, I wondered if he knew how many lives he must have touched. We pulled into the bus barn, and the assistant to the Director of Transportation told my bus driver that Union wanted him back. I shook his hand as well and thanked him for our ride.
There are so many ways to light this world; he, like someone else I know, made it seem easy.
