Joey and I seem to sit in the shade most days looking forward to the mornings when we can stretch far enough to sit in the light and feel its warmth. Late this afternoon, a patch of warmth found us as we shared dinner and college football with one of my Midwest City girls, Amanda, her husband, Jason, who is a veteran of the war in Afghanistan, and one of her daughters, Brookie. Amanda and her family have lived in half a dozen other places since we left Midwest City twenty years ago, including an entirely different continent, but in the booth across from me sat the same blue-eyed, tender-hearted, sweet spirit I met when she was a sophomore in high school.
These are teaching gifts, gifts we employ to reach the minds we instruct, and gifts that teach us - to keep reaching for the light. And in that moment we are given a tremendous reminder that we are loved in grander ways that we deserve or understand.
James 1:17 - "Every good and perfect gift comes from above and comes from the Father of lights"
