The other five loaded up in the car tonight and drove up to see her on her 2-4 (her day off). They want to celebrate Ashley's engagement to Jake and arranged to take appropriate pre-wedding gifts for our favorite Bohemian. Aubrey committed to bring a decorative head piece, layered with flowers and ribbons - so appropriate for Ashley, as she is all things natural, all things beauty, all things earth.
Having found herself with more to do than she had day to do it, Aubrey called last night to ask if I could help. Help? What a gift!
I met Aubrey at Hobby Lobby today, and we picked out the ribbon and the flowers. As I assembled them, I remembered a headband of Taylor's and her craft supplies. I just wanted something of Tay to go with the girls to Missouri. The head band was a thin braided gold rope attached at two ends with black elastic. It was perfect. I took the twine from her craft box and wrapped it carefully to cover the gold. I used more twine to secure a vine of green blooms and then used the loops of what I wrapped to secure white and muted red flowers. More of the vine slipped gently into a few of the ribbons that hung below.
As I wrapped the twine and secured the flowers, I remembered the summer we crafted for Taylor's little. We didn't know who her little would be yet, but we loved creating treasures for her. Little did we know the treasure she would receive in Josie.
The girls arrived a few minutes ago - safe. They are so good to indulge me that communication. When they are away at college and the big winds of Oklahoma threaten to blow, I often text just to "count noses". Now they send me pictures of each of their noses.
The head piece is just a simple adornment - but wrapping that twine around Taylor's head band - I couldn't help but think that Taylor is still the one who connects us all.
She loves those girls.
