Loving, thoughtful people reached out to me; I saw their love but still felt the pricks of the hurtful words, and I was exhausted.
Today, a box from Norman sat on the kitchen counter waiting for me. I had just spent three hours at UHS at the best Black Light Dance ever. I am so blessed that both of my kids attend the best high school in the nation, one that works diligently to offer events that create the best memories. Consequently, I rushed into the house with my briefcase as work for tomorrow was still undone. The box covered in craft paper caught my eye and I dropped my work, left the door open and tore into my mail.
These girls- oh these girls - each took a piece of their hearts, placed it in the box, and sent it to my boys and I. The gifts were fun and thoughtful, but the words they wrote brought laughter into the house, warming our hearts. There are socks and pajamas, chocolate cigars, just chocolate and a perfect door hanger - and their notes, notes I will keep in my bible.
One of the lines Duchess wrote quoted scripture, "...we are more than conquerors..." We are more than conquerors. We are more than words mean hearts spew, and we are each a part of the girl that left us too early. So when we love each other, she dances; the red tambourine plays; the Sun-drop girl laughs; classic rock-n-roll music fills the airwaves, and just for a moment, that empty space that follows us everywhere fills up with love and joy and overflows into tomorrow lighting our way.
