"Well, yes baby girl. It was pretty much my only choice." And she would stick out her tongue at me.
Kelsi is getting married on July 4th. She said that Taylor knew she and John would marry before she did. Kelsi and Taylor had planned for Taylor to be a bridesmaid. Kelsi wants to honor that promise and leave Taylor's spot in the bridal party open.
I know.
I am so honored and sad I couldn't even write about it on Saturday, and it is such a beautiful idea, such a good thing.
Kelsi came to ask my permission; it's HER WEDDING!!! Of course, that's how I answered. "It's your wedding, your wedding pictures, your day. You do what you want - but if you change your mind, you owe us nothing."
Tears streamed down her smiling face; she just wants Taylor there.
It's just the first of several weddings Taylor will miss and that will her. These moments tear at me. Usually after half a dozen or so, my husband finds me and wraps his burly arms around me and buries my face in his neck and just lets me cry. He keeps saying that we will get through this; he just keeps holding me.
The root word of wedding is wed. It is a verb whose meaning includes "to bind by close or lasting ties; attach firmly." My friend Cindy read several verses from Ecclesiastes at my wedding.
"Two are better than one, because they have a good return
for their labor; If either of them falls down, one can help the
other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help
them up. Also, if two lie down together they will keep warm,
but how can one keep warm alone? Though one may
be overpowered, two can defend themselves A cord of three
strands is not quickly broken." Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
We had no idea that day in July how those ties would be tested 23 years to the day we were married. At the end of a day he holds me, and as he lies next to me, I rest my hand on his shoulder so he can drift off to sleep.
I can't give Kelsi the red-headed bridesmaid she wanted, but I can pray the cord of three strands that binds me to Joey wraps she and John in a life-long friendship, an eternal love affair, and an unwavering commitment.
Taylor loved a good love story; ours was one of her favorites.
Congratulations Kelsi. You are a jewel.
