Joey and I have been blessed to work with dozens of good people in several different school districts. At each, we have found good, wonderful educators and coaches who have helped raise our children; more than that, they have loved our children. This extended family acts as one of the richer blessings of being an educator.
I didn't ask Wade's Student Council sponsors/leaders to text me updates; I didn't know the schedule of events. (One of the joys of being a boy mom - communication is often limited.) Nevertheless, I received three different updates from the adults working with him and a fourth from a former colleague. Each text beamed with parental pride - even though they didn't take him to raise. They do so willingly, selflessly - giving up the entire weekend to run around Yukon High School with hundreds of other high school kids and teachers. They don't get paid more to be there; they will have to wait a good number of days to even be reimbursed. They represent the devotion in the phrase Taylor would say - "I get to pour light into them."
I am so blessed by the folks that love my kids.
