Today was hard; I guess 27 is just going to be a hard day. It wasn't just hard for me, though, It has just been a hard day for the team of people with whom I work and this world in which we live. Basically, we all look at some kind of emptiness every day. Sometimes, we look past it, ignoring it and the needs it represents and its threat to require more than we have to give. Other days, like today, we band together and reach out to someone lost in the void, and we say not today, not as long as I can sit here and talk to you, not as long as you can hear me, not today. When that someone reaches back, we've won this down.
As I write, I realize that we are still fighting. We didn't punt today, and we didn't turn the ball over. We won this down.
The emptiness will be there tomorrow for you, for me, for someone in our circle of influence. Here's hoping we can be the light.
