Father's have so much influence on their daughters and our fiery red-head knew exactly to whom she belonged. Her daddy would always be the number one man in her life, the one man who made dreams come true, the one who taught her to compete with reckless abandon, the one who never let her settle for anything. but the best, the one who wrapped her up in his big burly arms and loves her fiercely.
Those same arms wrapped up Wade before he left us for Stillwater, having just returned from Mexico. I listened to the manly hug from the other room - thankful not just for Wade's father - but for their friendship.
God gave Wade and Taylor a tremendous gift when he made Joey their daddy. Perhaps it should be commonplace for a man to be a fantastic dad, but we live in a world where we know it isn't. Even if it were, we shouldn't take these men who choose to be larger than life in the eyes of their children, who never step away from the hard work of parenting, who show up in their kids' lives in the day to day and in the year to year.
They give us reason to hope....
The verse at church today out of Romans talked about rejoicing in our suffering because suffering produces endurance and endurance........character, and character........hope. If I am being honest, I am not quite sure we have rejoiced in our suffering - if I get that totally - but I do get the hope part. Seeing dads like Joey being honored today, seeing the love from all over for biological dads and for men who choose to be dads - certainly gives us reason to hope.
